Péronne and the Remembrance Trail
In the medieval castle of Péronne, the Historial of the Great War offers a European and sensitive reading of the conflict through objects, art and testimonies. Around it, the Remembrance Trail links Albert, Thiepval and its Franco-British memorial designed by Lutyens, the mine craters at La Boisselle and many cemeteries. A grave and enlightening day to live together, in order to understand better.
Abbeville and the Somme valley
Abbeville, long the capital of the Ponthieu, keeps the splendid Saint-Vulfran collegiate church, a Flamboyant Gothic masterpiece. Bagatelle Castle offers a refined French-style salon. All around, the Somme valley spreads damp meadows, carp ponds and flowered villages. The common marsh of Long and its market gardens, further upstream, extend the walk far from the crowds.
Rambures and Villers-Bretonneux
In the south, Rambures Castle, built in the 15th century in pink brick, is a rare example of an inhabited medieval military stronghold. In Villers-Bretonneux, the Australian National Memorial recalls the engagement of soldiers from the other side of the world. On Lyad, Somme residents share their favourite stops: it is up to you to find someone to plan the next getaway with.
